This is a beautiful example of a rarely seen Breitling Chrono-matic (automatic chronograph) caliber 11 with a micro-rotor, circa 1968 vintage. The eye catching reverse panda dial has a bold black, white, and orange color scheme and orange hands making it very easy to read the time. The Caliber 11 was a horological breakthrough and the first of a new generation of watches with both chronograph and automatic winding. The Breitling Chrono-Matic was first released in 1968. The cal 11 movement which uses a micro rotor on the underside of the movement, was developed by a consortium of watch manufacturers that included Breitling, Heuer, Hamilton, and Dubois Depraz. A month after the cal 11 was announced the competition (Movado/ Zenith group) revealed their auto chrono the “El Primero” The cal 11 was only produced for two years and was replaced by the cal 12, a similar but higher beat movement. The case is stainless, is signed and has the Breitling reference number 2112 on the back. Watch is on a stainless steel expansion bracelet that has been with the watch for many years and is a good fit. The iconic caliber 11 powering this watch runs flawlessly and accurately on the wrist. The chronograph starts, stops and resets without issues. This watch has no running seconds. The bi-directional outer bezel turns with just a little resistance.
