The rarest of all the Canadian military issue watches are those issued to the navy (RCN), seen less frequently than the hard to find RCAF or the DND versions of this watch.
This Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) single pusher Rodania chronograph uses a Venus 175 hack seconds movement and dates to circa mid 1960’s. The case back is engraved RCN CAS-1, has Serial number 1235 and is stamped with case reference 4449 H. The Canadian military speced and awarded contracts to produce these chronographs, they were produced in limited numbers for the various armed forces and were not available to the general public. Besides Rodaina, contracts were also awarded to Breitling and Omega at different times using the same specifications, which follow.
“Technical Characteristics: WATCH, WRIST .12 HOUR DIAL RANGE, 0 TO 60 SEC AND 0 TO 30 MIN STOPWATCH SCALES, SILVER BACKGROUND, LUMINOUS GRADUATIONS, 5MIN SMALLEST INCREMENT, NONLUMINOUS BLACK NUMERALS, LUMINOUS MIN AND HOUR HANDS, A/A COLOUR SWEEP SEC HAND, BLACK TIME TOTALIZER HANDS, 12-1 LIGNE SIZE MOVEMENT, 17 JEWELS, MINIMUM, STEM WIND NONMAGNETIC, 30 HOUR RUNNING TIME, MINIMUM, WITH S SETTINGFEATURE, CRES CASE, PLASTIC CRYSTAL, WATERTIGHT”
