Antique Hampden Watch Co. key wind, key set, sterling silver hunter case pocket watch circa 1878 with private label markings Smith Bros. Kingston on the works. This watch uses an 18 size, Series I Hampden 17J movement with low serial number 93737 which corresponds to Hampton Watch Company’s 2nd production year* 1878. The sterling silver case is signed AM Watch Co., Waltham Mass. This horological heritage timepiece has been recently serviced and in good working condition. Photos are not actual size of watch, it measures 57 mm across x 85 mm (base to top of bow).
*Although the Hampden name was first used in 1877 the company actually started business as the Mozart Watch Co in 1864, it morphed many times before (and after) due to a series of plant closures, failures, buyouts and a least one fire.
