Stainless steel Glycine Airman Double Twelve 40 mm Pilot’s watch, ref 3938.002. This model was introduced in 2015, one year before Glycine was acquired by Invicta. The original Airman. introduced in 1953, had a 24 hour dial and immediately became very popular with American pilots during Vietnam war. The Double Twelve was the first version of the Airman not to have a 24 hour dial, it has a 12-hour scale on the dial and a second 12-hour scale on the bezel, which serves as a second time zone indication. The black dial is easy to read with very clear contrast between numerals and hands which are treated with luminous material. There is a second crown a 4 0’clock which screws down to lock the rotating bezel in place. The main crown also screws down and has quick set position for the date. The GL 224 automatic movement (based on ETA 2824) works well and keeps accurate time, it can be viewed threw the caseback sapphire crystal. The rotating bezel turns in both directions, it is a bit tight at one point and sometimes gets stuck and has to be turned in the opposite direction. The suggested retail price of this watch in 2015 was USD 1,625. Photos are magnified and show details not seen by naked eye, the case measures 40 mm across (not including crown) x 48 mm lug to lug.
